PLEASE NOTE:

Gas cylinders can be collected from either of our showrooms in Keighley & Bradford or they can be ordered on line.

LPG – Liquefied Petroleum Gas

Calor Gas cylinders are specially made to store the fuel in its liquid state. The liquid turns to gas very easily, as it fills the space above the liquid in the cylinder.
As gas is drawn off, more liquid turns to gas to replace it. A regulator fitted in the supply line between the cylinder and the appliance keeps the pressure of the gas constant as the cylinder empties – until there is no liquid left to turn to gas.

TYPES OF CYLINDERS

There are two main types of gas available, butane and propane. In use these are effectively the same, but as a liquid , Calor propane has a lower ‘boiling point’, which means it turns into a gas at a lower temperature and it needs to be stored under higher pressure. There are also Liquid Off-take cylinders for forklift trucks and special types for other automotive users.

In the cylinder, the gas is in liquid form, exerting a pressure of:-

  • 2 bar at 15 degrees C for Calor Butane
  • 7 bar at 15 degrees C for Calor Propane

The vast majority of appliances can be used with either Butane or Propane, but because of the difference in operating pressure for the two types of fuel, it is important to use the correct regulator.
It is not possible to change from one fuel source to the other without changing the regulator.
